My 1.5 year old has mild eczema, with some small patches around the eyes and eyelids. My doctor prescribed Locoid ointment (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%). I have since learned that there are serious side effects associated with topical steroid use around the eyes and eyelids, including cataracts and glaucoma. Without understanding the risks, I applied the Locoid to my child's eye area and eyelids daily for one week. I stopped immediately upon learning of the danger. I am now very worried that I may have caused permanent damage to her eyes. I am taking her to an ophthalmologist in a couple of days, but I am hoping to find an answer about the possible effect of Locoid on the eyelids for one week in a 1.5 year old toddler. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
