image retention

Hello,

Please could you help me out. I have been having weird visual symptoms from the past one month.
It started with seeing floaters in the right eye. They gradually increased in number and I got some in the left eye too.
Also i started observing that whenever I look at any object (not necessarily a bright one) and move my eye around there appears to be a flash shaped like that object in my view for some seconds and for bright objects it is worse as there seems to be a trail following the objects. I have gone for the regular pupil dilation test and field view test and everything turned out normal. Please can you shed light on what you think might be the problem and what would be the appropriate tests to do and whom to consult as I am scared it might get worse. Thank you for your help in advance.

The flash you describe is most likely vitreous traction.  You should see a retinal specialist.

It is unlikely to be vitreous traction as the flash he described has a shape.
I know because I have your problems, the floaters, the flashes with shape, and the trails. I took an MRI, blood scan, and numerous eye tests and have seen many, many doctors, all turned out normal. my neuro opthamologist finally diagnosed the problem as palinopsia and told me to be under observation for the next 5 mths.
Do realise however that those flashes and trails may seem more prominent as you are increasingly vigilant about your vision, and flashes and trails are perfectly normal when they don't last too long.
