Excessive Blinking in 2year old

I have a perfectly normal 2 1/2 year old. Over the past 2 weeks, I have noticed some excessive blinking. Usually whilst watching television. He would state that his eyes hurt him sometimes. What would cause this sudden on-set of blinking? He does use the computer sometimes and is at kindergarten.

At this age, kids are discovering body parts which they weren't aware of before and also body functions. Try ignoring it for a while, by son did it at 2, plus a month or so of sticking his tongue in and out, and some other "twitch" like things.

my  two year old just started excessive eye blinking last night while watching tv. 98% of the time its when he looks at the tv and its immediate. i called the doc but he didnt think it was much to worry about and that much could be done right now. i can tell he is not doing it on purpose and his eyes dont look dry.  i guess i just wanted to know how common this was and what could be the cause . lm

Our 3yr old son has developed the same blinking habit - especially when he is eating or drinking. Has checked out fine with the opthamologist and his primary doc said to track it for a few weeks. No other symptoms. One thing the docs said is to watch for him "disconnecting" from reality when it happens which may be a sign of seizures - that has not been happening so still a mystery.

Could be an eye problem, could be a "tic" or mannerism. Take him in to see a pediatric ophthalmologist Eye MD for an exam, that's the only way to tell which is which.
