Hello, sir, I'm 23 and have high myopia, about - 8.5. Now I am studying for a master's degree and have applied for the admission qualification of a doctor. At the same time, I am a power lifter (I know this sounds dangerous). A few days ago, I went through mydriasis fundus examination, and the doctor told me that everything was normal. The doctor advised me to avoid contact sports, amusement park equipment and explosive force when exercising. In my country (China), doctors usually do not specify which sports can or cannot be carried out. When I train, I choose the weight that can complete 3 to 5 standard movements. I will not do 1RM training, but I will inevitably use valsalva breathing mode. So I want to ask if it is safe for me to do strength lifting training?
These results reinforce the hypothesis that heavy occupational lifting may be a relevant risk factor for retinal detachment.
