Is this a normal phenomenon?

I'm 21/Male, eye exam 5 months ago. This may seem like a odd question. My study partner was showing me this 'cool trick', where if you unfocus your eye(s), you'll notice that on small things, such as letters on keyboard that the letter 'divides/splits into more ghosty versions of itself' individually with each eye (which I was already aware of). But then we looked at a white light, and after unfocusing and staring at it for a few seconds we noticed a slight tinge of green outlining it, although then once we refocused eyes it completely absorbed back into it's original fullness. I've become extremely hyper aware of this now, last night I went past a traffic lighting sign (the ones that flash words/arrows) and I unfocused eyes and the yellow lettering it was flashing also had a red split version slightly above it, but once i focused my eyes it all 'formed' together, I also noticed up close to the sign behind the lights there were infact a yellow/orange/red display of lights one behind the other, but how come all colours were split when i unfocused eyes? I even have noticed if I do this on the white letters on my black keyboard, in a lit room I can notice a ever so slight 'yellow/green' tint around the white letters when observed up close while unfocused. I haven't asked my friend if they've witnessed this because I don't want to come off weird. Is this normal? Is it just the human eye not 'focusing' everything because it's been relaxed to unfocus on purpose, hence how when I focus it all retracts? :/

Yes you are playing with your convergence mechanism (used to move eyes to a converging position for reading and near from the parallel alignment for seeing 20 feet or farther and the 'accommodation" mechanism that focuses the eye.

Thank you, I realize this is a obscure question. So the 'colorful border/separations' (let's call it that), is just the outcome of not fully focusing the eye(s) on the object in view and seeing what colors are within it/around it? I've noticed pretty much anything can have this effect if in the correct distance/lighting. Easiest way to get this effect I've noticed is just unfocused staring  eyes at your finger infront of a bright screen, it's like theres a orange/redd/greenish border less than a mm. Is it
All sorts of things you can do. Blur things, double things, create shadows, break white light into spectrum.  Amaze your friends and  a great bar trick.
Thanks very much, I guess being hyper aware can reveal some odd everyday things.
Yes if you want to go in the deep end read the section on entopic/entoptic phenomena on wikipedia.com or elsewhere
