Itchy eyes...

For the past two weeks I've been having this burning and itchy sensation (like something is in my eye) only in one eye at a time. For instance, yesterday my right eye was irritated and I thought there might have been something in my eye but by the next morning the irritation was gone. Now today, it's my left eye. I don't wake up with this irritation it seems to occur sometime during the day and only in one eye at a time. I don't have pink eye. My eye feels like there is something inside the upper lid. This has been occurring everyday but it seems to alternate. It never occurs in both eyes. I've never had this problem before and want to know how to get rid of it.

I don't wear contacts only reading glasses. Help!!

If problem is not resolved with the humidity, then do see an opthalmologist.  I have been having similar symptoms, but including incipient adhesions, and it was diagnosed as a weak layer in one of the three coverings of the cornea.  Treatment with onntment at night and lubricating drops during day.  Failing that, laser surgery has been used successfully.

Thanks for responding. I found out that the heat in my house was drying my eyes out causing them to be irritated, even though the thermostat was set to 68 degrees. My daughter told me to boil water to humidify my house (she suffers from dry eye) and 30 mins later the irritation went away. Since then I've purchase a humidifier for my house and have not had any problems since.

Thanks again Dr. O

You need to see an ophthalmologist for an examination.
