Laser Retinoplexy

Background: 58Y/Male. Highly Active. Appx 5 years back my eye doctor saw something and sent me to a retina specialist who identified lattice degeneration in both eyes and I have been going every 6 months for monitoring. No eye condition except general reading glasses (+1.5).
Onset of issues, it seems: A few months back I was in a dimly lit restaurant and felt constant flashes on the left side of my eye.  It went away as soon as I left the restaurant. Went for an emergency appt to the retinal practice and was given all clear. At my next retinal specialist checkup, the doc told me that he sees thining on the left side and recommends later retinopexy to rivet the thinning area with scar tissues ( with other explanations)
Questions:
a) Is a preventive treatment like this standard protocol
b) Is it worth getting a second opinion - I have no reason to distrust the intentions of the doctor and he did not push the procedure, but I would rather take care of it than wait for it to become a bigger problem or a detachment later on
c) How long I have to lay off weight lifting/sports- I am a former D1 athlete and I lift (not crazy), do HITT, walk daily, box twice a week, swim, etc but have a standard desk job from 9 to 5 which involves looking at a computer screen for a period of time

Thank you in advance for reading my questions and I wish you all good health.

1. There is no standard protocol as each case is different and even retinal experts sometimes disagree on what should be treated.
2. If the "doctor' is a Eye MD retina specialist a second opinion would normally not be necessary unless you need it for peace of mind
3.The retina surgeon would have to answer that.
