Lattice degeneration

About one year ago, I was diagnostic with this type of degeneration in my retina (both eyes), I'm 25 years old, i have a low myopia  and I need to do the laser once a month, by 4 months, and asked to returns 6 months layer. Well I'm back seeing flashes after 4 months practically, and then did the laser again! My doctor said she did laser almost 360 degrees in my retina, in both eyes. =[ And I have such a pain when did the laser, my eyes, head and face really hurts, always need painkillers before to do it, is this common?
I wish to know if is it a genetic (my mother retina has detached and she lost her vision partially, my grandma was blinded when her retina has detached, too) case? And what can I do to avoid a retinal detachment since I'm young and very healthful, and which activities can I do, can I play my wii? Practice scuba diving? Can I play capoeira, or others sports?

Avoid capoeira like the plague.  Any kind of martial art is bad, bad, bad for RD

I have lattice degeneration in both eyes as does about 7-10% of the population. Most people do not need preventive laser. When laser is done it is usually not that painful so your experience was atypical.  You are at increased risk of RD due to your family history of RD, myopia and lattice.

Use the search feature and archives and read the previous posts and discussions about "prevention of retinal detachments". No problem with playing with wii or scuba diving, I have no idea what capoeira is. I do advise my higher risk patients to avoid contact sports like basketball, soccer and to wear protective sports eyegoggles for racquet sports like tennis.
