peripheral retina

I've had vitreous detachment which leads to peripheral retina detachment.
My ophtalmologist said he has no problem  with this peripheral detachment,
He treated me by laser to protect  further detachment that will probably  move to the center area.
However, the laser treatment cannot make the circle of the detached retina because of capability of the laser equipment itself.   He said he lasered as a water dam. (No cryopexy needed)

My question is:  How important is the peripheral retina to the vision?
Will the detached retina get back to normal at a specific of time?

The very outer edge of the retina near its end (ora serrata) is not reached by light from the peripheral vision and is not used for functional side vision. Note I said only the very outer part.

The very peripheral vision is not used for everyday vision. Ask your surgeon the second question
