need for an opthamologist?

i recently went to my optometrist because my glasses were not strong enough anymore. while i was at him i found that my eyes had gotten worse by a whole degree in 5 months. he asked a whole lot of things that could have caused it but i haven't been doing any of those. i also see halos around lights at night. is there any need for me to go see an opthamologist?
thanks
