Red Eyes/Eye Pain

My eyes have been red for a long time.  What causes red eyes? I have worn contacts for about a year and everytime they were red, I used Naphcon.  I've been using Naphcon for about 1/2 a year with my contacts in.  Right now, my eyes are in pain quite often and are red a lot.  Could it be because I used Naphcon too much?  I went to an opthamologist but he said there was nothing wrong and there was no eye infection. I don't know what to do.  Also, for some reason my eyes are super dry at night and in the morning.  Its like I don't produce enough or any tears all through the night. Please help. What can I do?

I use Nature's Tears with my contacts, which is fine because it doesn't have any chemicals in it.

No it does not mean that they are permanently damaged  Yes it means stop using Napthcon

Does this mean that my eyes are permanently damaged? Will they get better if I stop using the drops?

1. Causes of red eyes  LEGION
2. Napthcon is NOT approved for use on contacts and it can damage your eyes as the preservatives are retained in the contact and become more concentrated.
3. Cause of red eyes in contact lens wearers  =  the contacts 99.5% of the time.
