I can make my side vision go black?

I'm 21, australian, healthy. I've found this 'thing' i can do and it's got my extremely worried. If I go out into the sunlight when it's really bright, face my back to the side so I'm not looking at it, and go ''cross-eyed'' or look at the tip of my nose the sides of my vision in 'both' eyes go black and then reappear once I'm not doing it anymore...

Stop doing that, there are better uses for your time.  Have an eye examination. Most likely you are just having part of your side vision blocked by your nose.
I think I understand what the poster is saying. In bright light, making your eyes cross, you're putting their sight-range out of the normal field they're ''suppose'' to be in, so ofcourse it's 'nothing/black', you dont see 360 degrees, that's why it dissapears as you stop criss-crossing your eyes.... I just went and tested this, doesn't work inside very easy, you must be in sunlight to notice the change, would you say this is correct JohnHaganMD?  Rather odd observation, interesting though.
Not an experiment  I want to run. Besides in Kansas City, MO we haven't seen the sun in months.
While on the topic,  I understand how this isn't commonly noticed, it's a odd set-up to see. Do we usually not see 'nothing/blackness' because our eyes have skin and bones around them, what would we see if we only had eyes?
Too far out the hypothetical limb for me.
