Stars and flashing lights

Are stars and flashing lights the same thing?
Do they both mean retinal tear?

I went to my opthalologist a while ago,
3 weeks after the eye exam, my eye floaters increased by 2, then it stopped.
Now I see about 6 floaters, is that normal? My nearsightedness is pretty severe.Should i go see my opthaologist
even though the floaters only increased a bit?

When I look at lights ,sky and bright things i see stars, what are they?
Are they like flashing lights? Am i going to be okay if I leave it as it is?

what indicates retinal detachments? Does the retinal retachment surgery work most of the time ?

What does the increase of floater mean?
What can the ophthalmologist do about it? and should I go to hospital and do a thorough eye exam?

You should return to your ophthalmologist for the increase in floater, especially with your high myopia.

The "stars" are normal,  I recall the name of the phenomenom.
