PVD in the age of 30. What the future brings?

You write about PVD in cases of people 60-70 years old. And what about those like me - 30 years old with severe myopia around -15 D in both eyes and diagnosed almost full PVD and 2 laser treatments to degenerated retina? What I can expect in 20-30 years? Will I still be able to see? Is there a cure for PVD?  Best regards

Look up amsler grid to see an example. If you have retina problems you will see this grid in a weird way... crooked, jagged lines, missing pieces, distortions. If you've got a problem, you will know it and can tell your doctor.

Monika - Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Currently, there is not much else available but I would keep checking back here because things are finally starting to move in the right direction.

nickppatel - It would be nice to think so wouldnt it? There are still many controversies that remain, however. For me the biggest one is that if you stop eye and staphyloma progression, do you stop all retina degeneration? I think the answer would be a big fat "probably" given some recent articles on the long term follow up of staphy patients. I guess we wont know for sure until we can arrest such progression as we age.

Dukey, thanks a lot, your comment is very helpful. But what do you mean by "Amsler Grid"?
I searched for some  AREDS treatment to reiforce retina and avoid further degenerations  but I am afraid not many or any of them are available in Poland. Since many years every day I am taking pills containing lutein and blackberry, beta- caroten etc., which are available in Poland f.e. Vizotrin, Doppel Hertz Active, Vitalux Plus 6 or Ocuvite Lutein (the best) and many others. I hope that is enough...What else could I take?

If successful, wouldn't the new treatments being discussed here (as well as any treatments that arise over the next 30 years) be effective in reducing the rate of legal blindness in high myopes, not only young but old as well?

PVD in iteself will not lead to any decrease in visual acuity, except for the minor irratation caused by floaters etc. However, you are at an increased risk for degenerative changes in the retina and this should be where your focus lies. PVD is like a picnic compared to some of the changes that can happen in high myopes. There is a spike in legal blindness after the age 60 in high myopes. This is a reasonably consistent statistic and there is no getting around it. I suggest you have a full dilated retina exam now and regular check ups. Also I would advise daily monitoring with an Amsler Grid to check for macular changes.
