Problems with Lentis Mplus lenses

I have had a Lentis Mplus lens fitted to one eye and am experiencing the ghosting with my distance vision that others also seem to have experienced. My close up reading vision is excellent. My consultant has given me three options. 1. do nothing and try to live with it - I've tried various contact lenses in that eye but they just take away my reading ability.  2. replace it with a monofocal lens and have to return to wearing contact lenses or 3. turn it 180degs. This option has been suggested by the lens manufacturer but I'm struggling to see how this can work as I don't want to lose the excellent close up vision I've now got. Has anybody else ever had this procedure done and what was the outcome?

The ghosting is an inevitable effect of having both the far and near parts of the lens exposed by the pupil. It never really goes away but some people do get used to it.

Regarding turning the lens 180 degrees, it is possible that your pupil is slightly eccentric and that by turning the lens you may expose the near part less. However, this might also mean that the near vision will not be quite as good.

You are right that contact lenses will do nothing to help the ghosting.

If you really cannot get used to it, then you should probably get it replaced with a monofocal. Depending on what you prefer, the monofocal could be set to give you monovision, with the other option being to aim for distance vision and then wear reading glasses for near.

Traditional diffractive multifocal lenses like the Restor or Tecnis Multifocal will also give you obvious halos. It is possible that the Symfony lens by AMO may cause less of these problems, but it is a very new lens and we await more data regarding it.
