A vitrectomy is not a new procedure and has constantly been refined with better instruments, better techniques and better and more experienced Eye MD surgeons to the point where many eyes that could not be helped several years ago can now be helped.
I cannot make the decision for you but 70% chance to make better is very good odds compared to many cases that have vitrectomies where the success rate is closer to 10%.

I had a vitrectomy surgery. It wasnt too bad, but you will probably need to do some sort of head positioning..ie. lay on your side or face down for a while. I had to lay face down for three weeks as they inserted a gas bubble in my eye to flatten the retina. The surgery itself wasnt painful, just a little discomfort. The recovery was the worst as I was bored.
