Red floaters, doctor says its depression

My cousin saw something like a red drop of blood fall down over his field of vision, and later saw red floaters in his eyes, that went away.  (Also had tingling in right hand.)  Not sure if this is related to the eye symptoms.  The doctor thought he was hallucinating, and prescribed medicine (amitriptyline) for depression.  And he said the tingling was carpal tunnel.  Is the amitriptyline safe to take, with the eye symptoms?  What could be causing the red floaters?  What is causing the drop of falling blood in his vision??

It could have been blood, however, most patient describe black spots.  Your cousin needs to see an ophthalmologist to have his retina checked.

My cousin saw an eye doctor yesterday, and h said there was a "gel" in his eye, and it could get better, or worse.  Does anyone know what causes this, and how serious it is?

Thank you, I will tell him to see an eye doctor.  Also, I just found out today... that he had used eye drops that "get the red out" prior to this happening, so I was wondering if the eye drops could have caused this, if something is wrong with his retina?  What could be happening to his retina?  Tearing...detaching?  He described the red blood drop "like a spider web slowly coming down,"  and the red spost looked like "red spots floating in the air."  I knew right away that it was in his eye and that he was was not hallucinating, like the doctor said, because I have had floaters for 50 years, but they are opaque, and I only see them when I look at the white ceiling.

I am worried for him...I think a blood vessel is leaking in his eye...because he said the red drop came down in front of his eye...could a leaking blood vessel case this?
