post retinal detachment

It's 2 months since my surgery of a buckle for a detachment macular off and I am wondering about what to do for vision correction.  I am 52, normally wear contact lens, and am just wearing one in my good eye for now.  This way I use my good eye for distance and my DR eye for close up viewing even though the vision is still wavy and smaller.  What are my options for correction in a few months?  I noticed you mentioned contact lens as a method, and have heard of prisms.....can you please explain prisms?  Are there any other options to consider?  I have also read that cataracts usually form within months of retinal surgery, and that there are different lens types that can be implanted then.  My right eye (good one) is -5.25.
One other question - after the detachment when it looked like I was seeing through murky water I could read  the  top 3 lines on the eye chart and with my "good" eye everything was a blur.  What caused that?
