Sight after vitrectomy

Hi my daughter has had ROP stage five since birth. She got bi lateral vitectomy done at the same time and had a gas bubble placed in the eye... Now five years later her retina got detached again and they were unable to save the left eye. The right retina had a tear as well so they tried to repair it again and also placed oil in the eye...also did some scar removal in the right eye...my question is when is her vision likely to come in...will it be now or only when the oil comes out? Thanks

@Ruth246 one of my nieces had that or similar condition at birth and has had the (I think)vitrectomy/scleral buckle placement. This was way back in the 80's and she participated in special ed for visual challenged students as Dr. Hagan mentioned and subsequently went on to great achievements in college and beyond.

Oil is placed in the eye only with the most difficult to treat retinal detachments.  these cases are all very unique and the prognosis guarded. It is not possible to generalize about how they will heal or how much vision will return. You should discuss frankly with her eye surgeons the prognosis. It is likely she will need special education for the visually impaired.  EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO GET REALISTIC EXPECTATION FROM THE SURGEONS AND ASK ABOUT SPECIAL EDUCATION/SERVICES FOR VISUALLY CHALLENGED MAY NEED IN NEAR FUTURE.
