Reports of an image size difference between the eyes as large as 20+% are extremely rare in the clinical literature. The only case that I can recall was associated with permanent (intractable) double vision, as well as other unpleasant symptoms. I don't think there's much chance of neuroadaptation to such a condition.
I'm not familiar with the Stiles Crawford effect, but apparently you had it before surgery, and it wasn't a problem.
I think your solution at this point would be either to get your second eye done or to block enough vision in one eye (through patching, a foil, or undercorrection) so that you are essentially only using one eye.
I don't think that 1.25 diopters of astigmatism would disappear.
