Telescope-like double lens implant.

Popular daily news paper published an important News: British scintists have developed a new technique called IOL VIP for visually impaired people by ARMD. This technique is used since last 18 months.Two lenses are fitted -one behind the iris and the other in front of Irris.These two lenses work as telescope, create an image which directly reaches the brain through the nerves. Time taken in the surgery is 30 minutes and it takes 12 weeks for improving vision.(This is translated from a Hindi(Indian) paper.
P.S As a post script, I may mention that they have published that new contact lenses are avolable for animals.This lenses are developed by a chemist named Kristin Krinnar.These lenses protects from ultra violet rays.

Yes in the USA its still investigation. Things go slower due to the litiginous nature of the US lawsuit industry.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but there is an article from the NY Times about telescope implantation for the visually impaired (mostly for those with MD). Apparently, it's already been approved and is being used in Europe, but has yet to be given clearance from the FDA here in the U.S.

That's not new and has been used experimentally in the USA for 2-4 years. In fact one of the surgeons in my group was part of one of the FDA studies. The verdict is still out. Some people feel they benefited a great deal while others didn't
