Tri-focal lens (Refractive Lens Exchange)

This isn't a question just some information that I hope may help people investigating multifocal lenses.

Four weeks ago I had AT Lisa Trifocal lenses (Zeiss) implanted, the second eye two days after the first.  Prior to surgery my prescription was:

RE -10.50 -1.50 x 120 6/6
LE -11.50 -1.25 x 60 6/6

I am 57 years old and in the past 6 months have had PVDs in both eyes.  This enabled me to have the lens exchange as before the PVDs my surgeon had refused to do RLE because of the risk of retinal detachment.  My cataract surgery was using femtosecond laser (which is supposed to minimise the risk of RD).  The day after the second surgery I was 20/20 in each eye and 20/15 using both eyes.  My reading, intermediate and distance vision is excellent.  I can read for hours with no effort (I’m a reader and usually get through 2 or 3 books a week).  I’m a computer programmer and am having no difficulty using the computer all day although I did get eye strain headaches for the first couple of weeks.

I do see some halos around oncoming headlights at night but this is improving all the time and I feel quite safe and comfortable driving in normal conditions.  I did have a difficult moment one night when a police car came up behind me with its red and blue lights flashing, the brake lights from the car in front and the headlights from oncoming traffic but it was momentary.

I hope this posting will help people considering multifocal lenses.  I recall one of the doctors saying that these boards tend to attract people with problems and I’d like to redress the balance!  I would also like to thank the doctors and contributors to this board as I’ve learnt a lot from them.

Hi Sue,
I have read your comments with great interest because I would like to find out more about these tri focal lens.
I understand that you had fermosecond laser for astigmatism correction during the operation, by the way your astigmatism is exactly the same as mine. Where did you have your operations done ? Who was your surgeon ?
I would appreciate if you would contact me please.

If you read my first post you'll see my prescription.  I had astigmatism of -1.50 in one eye and -1.25 in the other.  This was dealt with by the Femtosecond laser which was used during the lens replacement surgery.

There are still some halos and glare but I don't notice them and they don't bother me.  It can be difficult to read very small print in low lighting conditions but that has never proved a problem, I just move to better lighting.
