abnormal eyelash growth

over the last few months, i have noticed extra layers of eyelashes growing on top of each other...i have now at least 5 layers on each eye. it is slowly climbing up my eyelid. it does not grow downwards or underneath the eyelid.
it has been increasingly rapidly growing over the last few weeks.
any idea what could cause this?
it is pushing my lower eyelashes towards my eyes.
Thanks

I would suggest an eye exam  and depending on the findings, you may some endocrine evaluation.

You have asked a very interesting question.  I believe this kind of unusual eyelash growth is called Distichiasis.

It will be interesting to see what the doctor here says.
