Nystagmus and Vision Weakness

Hello Doctors,

I am 22 from Iran. Both my eyes have Nystagmus problem since I born and due to it I have very very wak vision. Maximum of 3 meters for objects and a few centimeters for texts and reading. My left eye's retina has got a damage due to an impact when I was 8 and decolment surgery was not successful. So l lost vision on that eye. Until some months ago there was no change in my right eye's vision. But it is now a few months that I feel my vision has got even weaker and I know there is cataract in it but i don't feel any opacity., Will doing cataract surgery improve my vision (at least to its previous stage)? Is this surgery risky for my eye and may it cause damage to right eye's weak retina?

Also I wish to know if a way has been found to fix Nystagmus and also if there is a kind of transplant to restore left eye's retina.

Many Thanks.

1. cataract surgery increases the risk of retinal detachment 10 fold even if successful.
2. I know nothing of the alleged Berlin work.
3. No cure for nystagmus. If face turn can do surgery to try and move "null point" towards center to improve the face turn position.

Hi Doctor,

Can cataract surgery in ,my case cause damage to retina or make it more vulnerable?
There is a clinic in Berlin (Drk Clinica) which does retinal transplants. So what they do if retina can not be transplanted?
And what about Nystagmus? Is there a working fix for it at present?

Many Thnks.

1. Only an in person exam can tell you if you would benefit from cataract surgery.
2. Your vision would not improve past what it was before the cataract developed.
3. At present the retina can not be replaced and growing a new retina is not possible.
