advanced glaucoma diagnosis

I just received a diagnosis of advanced glaucoma.I went in for an exam because of what felt to me like "shadowy" vision. My visual acuity is 20/20 so I thought my eyes were just tired or getting a little older. I am 43 years old. I failed a monocular visual field test miserably. My C/D ratios are .8 and .9.  I have an appt. with a specialist at Mayo Clinic but am scrambling to make sense of this. What can I expect? I don't want to go blind!!!!

Thanks for your comment. My pressures in my eyes were 20 and 22.  How long can treatment keep continued vision loss at bay once it is this advanced???

The .8 and .9 means that there is probably significant optic nerve damage.  The will probably start treatment with eye drops.  You did not mention you intraocular pressures.
