i am 22 years old , 4th year MBBS student.i hav -8.00 D myopia bilaterally.i came to know that its calld pathological myopia and there are risks of retinal detachment, macular degeneration, and open angle glaucoma. i also experience floaters and it makes me upset.i dont want to become blind....is there any satisfactory treatment for high myopia except laser surgery? i dont want to go through surgery but i have read somewhere about natural herbs and extraocular muscle exercises.i want to know tht do they really work?? can i hav better vision?

I remember some years ago aloe vera was promoted in Germany to heal all kinds of possible and impossible diseases but in fact it is only a laxative.

Have your eyes and your retina checked regularly and whenever your vision changes to prevent damages.

There are no exercises or herbs that will prevent pathologic myopic macular degeration from progressing. You can use the search feature and archives to read the many posts about this subject.

The surgery described (clear lens extraction or refractive lens exchange) is controversial in high myopia and most MDs myself included feel it increase the risk of retinal detachment and there are some theoretical risks to the macula also.

If your myopia is not deteriorating I would not call it Pathological myopia.

The available treatments are lasic and other laser surgeries of the cornea, implant of an additional lens (ICL) and early cataract surgery (clear lens exchange).  These methods would lead to freedom from glasses to a large extent.
The mentioned risks are not eliminated, sometimes there is even higher risk.
There are no herbs which help.
