cataract surgery after surgery for detached retina

I developed a cataract in my right eye  6 months after surgery for detached retina in the same eye.   I was told that I need to have  cataract surgery  but  since it follows the previous surgery there are additional risks/   Please advise

Dr. Oyakawa is absolutely correct.  I am no Dr. but researched this extensively after my ERM surgery formed a cataract.
My suggestions are to go to several Cataract specialists for opinions.  I went to 6 before I found the one that knew to "lower the bottle" during cataract surgery to lower the pressure when removing your original lens.  As Dr. O mentioned, their is an increased risk in capsular tear because your zonules holding the capsular bag may be weakened from your retina surgery.

The fact that the one surgeon acknowledged he knew there was increased risk and what to do to help prevent it gave me peace of mind.

There are as many cataract surgeons out there as Starbucks, but not all of them have the expertise to do surgery on a previous retina patient.
Ask lots of questions and find the best of the best.  Once a mistake happens, it's too late.  BTW, my cataract surgery turned out fine.

Yes,

The IOL power calculation is more difficult if you had a scleral buckle.  Redetachment risk is present and there is an increase rate of posterior capsular tear if you had a vitrectomy.
