eye pain

Hi Doctor,

I went to my optometrist today to discuss my eyes and eyelids. He said that i had inflamed ducts under my eyelids. He told me to use salt and water and rinse in an eye bath.

But on returning home my eyes seemed to swell up more. It's not the eyelids that i'm entirely concerned with, it the areas under my eyebrow and and above my eyelids that worry me. The skin seems to be stretched and loose and yellow in colour. Does this sound like any symptoms you know of. Can you please check out the pictures I have uploaded of close ups of both eyes. Here are the links;

Would this inflammation over the eye area be due to an eye condition or is it a specific skin condition. I have asked to be referred to a dermatologist but my doctors won't. They say it's normal but I know that my eyes were not like this before and something strange is going on.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dr Oyakawa,

I went to my local GP and asked him to have a look at my eyes. He said it looks like blepharitis as you have suggested. I have been prescribed eye drops called Chlorsig which is Chloramphenicol eye drops. I am using this 4 times a day with a drop in each eye.

Will this help with my condition if I use these drops for a week?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

EyeMD is an ophthalmologist, a medical doctor.  An optometrist is not a medical doctor.

Dr Oyakawa,

Thank you so much for responding to me. I have seen my doctor and my optometrist here here in Melbourne, Australia but they seem to say there's nothing wrong. But I know something is odd about my eyes they were never like this a few months ago.

What qualification does an EyeMD have? Is it the same as an optometrist? Do you have any contact info for anyone here in Australia? My optometrist seems to think there's nothing wrong so I don't know who I can go to next.

Any help would be great.

This looks like eyelid inflammation.  See an EyeMD.  The suggest treatment will not work.  This is probably blepharitis.  We treat this with lid hygiene (lid scub with Ocusof) and warm compress.  If severe a topical antibiotic.
