Orbital Decompression

I am scheduled to have an orbital decompression in about a week.  I am a little nervous.  The doctor mentioned a device that has to be attached to my skull during the surgery.  Can anyone clue me in on this?  How painful is it afterward?  Thanks!

This discussion is related to orbital decompression due to thyroid.
