I have had 7 retinal surgeries, I AM NOW BLIND in that eye.
I am in Toronto and I have been advised no eye transplant has been successful in Canada. My first retinal detach surgery consisted of a scleral buckle to be inserted. I was in a serious truck side swipe accident and showed no signs for 19days until the retinal collapsed. Next surgery was gas bubble to hold retina in place, third was oil capsule and blue lens, 4th retinal surgery was to clean up as the oil capsule had ruptured and needed replacing. This surgery damaged my macula. After every surgery i see. but then after 2 weeks the fluid has greyed me to no sight. They really thought the 4th surgery I would be able to read headlines of a paper, but it detached again in under 5 days. 10 years has gone by but this truck accident damaged both eyes. I am trying to get to the best macular surgeon in the states to see if there is any hope my macular could be repaired which as a membrane growing out of it now. I am coming to Chicago as I have been told one of the best macular specialists is there to get a opinion of this eye. The reason is my seeing eye has grown a cataract, this eye never detached but has had 2 tears, 2 vitreous pulls, at that point they cauterized the eye to keep it from detaching. So although I have been told they can operate to remove the cataract, they will only do this, as I have a limited chance of sight recovery. as a last choice. I am willing to come to the states and it does not have to be in the Chicago area. Originally I had thought the mayo clinic was the best but I have been told for a macular puncture or edema this might not be the case. Please advise any suggestions.
