possible retinal detachment?

My daughter, who is 8, has myopia and was prescribed reading glasses.  She sees "floaters" sometimes.  Late last night she saw a medium size dark gray area that went away shortly after.  The lights and tv were off so her room was dark.  Is this indicative of a retinal tear or potential retinal detachment?  How concerned with this should we be?

Something isn't right. Myopic kids don't need reading glasses they need glasses for distance.

She needs to be under the care of an eye MD ophthalmologist. Find one at www.aao.org and while you're there have her tested for glasses.

I would take her to a doctor to check it out. Please make sure that a complete examination of her retina is done. While yes, it seems young, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
