Severe Pain Behind Eye, Only When Moved Side to Side

I have been experiencing severe pain behind both of my eye's when I look from side to side, upwards, and upwards on an angle.  In the morning's it is beyond excruciating, ease's up for a bit, then becomes severe again at different points during the day.  It almost feels as though I'm going to rip the nerve's that are attached to the back of my eye out.  I have no redness of the eye whatsoever, or itching, burning etc.  Just blurred vision and it seems my one eye gets 'side tracked' almost like a lazy eye, but I've never had that before. But I have swelling around the skin that is below my eyebrow, as well as huge bags underneath both my eye.  It is not affecting sleep or anything, it is just severe during the day.  This has been going on for about a week, and for the past 3 days I have had a low grade fever (steady around 100).  But no actual headache, stuffy/runny nose or anything.  I went and saw an optometrist and he said that he couldn't see anything at all but that his best guess would be I had/have an eye infection at some point (to explain the pain/ fever).
Wondering what my next steps should be?

does the colour red appear fainter to you now? Could be O.N?

Thank you very much for you feed back,
I have just come back from the ophthalmologist and he said that my left eye is slightly bigger/ protruding than my right.  He is sending me to another Ophthalmologist that has a specialty in Neurology (he seemed concerned when I told him my father has M.S).  However, my doctor believes that it has something to do with my thyroid.  She also believed that I had "misshapen eyes" which I would be due to the fact that I have an astigmatism.  I have been looking at the "symptoms" for over and under active thyroid's and I have the symptoms from both sides!  I guess I'm just a medical mystery!  But, blood work is done and I guess I will just have to wait until the results come back to see if I am any further to the answer!

You need to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist ASAP. Call today and ask for an emergency "work in Exam". The optometrist is not trained as a physician.

Your symptoms require very urgent evaluation to make sure you do not have an eye emergency.

Ask your family MD to refer you or go to www.aao.org and find a eye MD near you.
