I have retinoschisis in both eyes, one symptomatic the other assymptomatic.
The symptom is blurring/distortion which improves and becomes worse from time to time. My vision is 6/6 though after the initial degradation that reached almost 6/12 (then improved to 9/12 and finally 6/6). Before the problem the vision was 6/5 corrected through cataract surgery caused by high myopia (amazing for my -18 dioptres). My doctor (actually 3 out of the 4 doctors I saw) advised me to just watch as the dangers of operating are far greater than doing nothing/watching it. In general, they usually advise that unless vision drops
to around 4/10 you do not operate. As for the dangers ,because it is usually caused by traction on the retina due to incomplete vitrous separation, it is to have a retinal detachment or tear.
Hi,
What difficulties you had in life because of retinoschisis?
My 6 years old boy diagnosed with retinoschisis.
Thanks
I also have retinoschisis in both eyes. Most types including mine do not require treatment. You should however have an eye exam at least yearly by an ophthalmologist and if there is any loss of peripheral vision see an Eye MD immediately.

Hi Sid. I also have retinoschisis in both eyes. My retinal specialist said (and this was confirmed by an article I read) that unless the schisis really gets bad and starts being a retinal detachment, they do nothing. He said that when he does have to do something, it is often a vitrectomy.
