I"m glad to hear that's normal not to do the ultrasound the day of the IUI. It didn't really bother me because I felt like well, they had already monitored it up until the point they knew that everything should be ready so.... but it really freaked my husband out. I mean seriously. As soon as we stepped foot out of the room those were the first words out of his mouth!!! I'll let him know not to panic.
I spoke to my doctor. Due to my age, he finds that giving the shot along with the iui in his older patients, (I'm 41) gives better results.
He will do the dye test next cycle.
He normally does not to US on the day of IUI. It would be nice to know the exact # of follicles and the size on the day of the IUI. Perhaps my next one, I can request it.
It's pretty neat that we have access to this technology, why not use it.
Thanks for your responses.

Oh my first IUI they didnt' do an ultrsound just before either. I came in on a Friday they did the bloodwork and ultrasound. Then they had my husband give me the trigger shot Sat. night. I went in Monday morning they did no bloodwork, ultrasound, etc. but went ahead and did the IUI. My husband was upset about it but hasn't brought it up with the doctor. I don't know if this is normal or not but would love to find out.
I can't address everything here but just two things that were totally different from what I have been told.... I was under the impression that the trigger shot was supposed to be given something like 24 - 48 hours before the IUI, the whole point of the trigger shot being to get the follicles to where they need to be for the IUI. But, I guess maybe they could give the shot afterwards if you were right on the brink of ovulating with the idea that the sperm will stay viable for quite a while??? I don't know, maybe that's the dumbest thing ever, this is just off the top of my head. Also, my OB/GYN before he even sent us to a fertility doctor did the HSG test with the dye to make sure my tubes weren't blocked. He said it would be a waste of money to do fertility meds. and an IUI if the tubes were blocked. He said this was standard. Hopefully someone with more experience than myself will be able to better respond to all of your questions. I really trust my OB/GYN and his staff so if it were me, at the very least I would talk with my OB/GYN and see if this seems normal to him or her as well.
