BBT - does the time of day matter?

I just started to chart my BBT, per doctor's orders, and I have taken it at different times in the morning, depending on when I wake up and it's been plunging - I am CD5 right now and this is my first AF in a long time (I didn't get AF when on BCP for like 12 years).  Is this normal?

I have been taking it before I even sit up but sometimes it's 3am and other times is 6am.  I wasn't sure what the chart is supposed to look like when you start filling it out and just wanted to know if it could fluctuate by that much during AF.  Thanks guys!  Baby dust to you all!

Yes, time of day matters. You should take it before you even get out of bed - moving around will cause your temp to go up. When I was charting my BBT, I would even write down the time - I wake up at 5:00 during the week, and 7:30ish on the weekend. I read online that ideally you take your temp the exact same time every day - even waking up at different times will cause slight variations. Make sure to take your temp first thing in the morning - before you get out of bed if possible.

When I was on BC I did not get my AF many months - I would randomly skip months. When I did, it lasted for ~1 day.  I asked my OB\GYN about this at the time and she said it was normal - the uterine lining is just thin. She was not concerned. She said it is normal to skip months - I'm not sure about 12 years.

I have been off BC for over a year. It took a few months for my cycle to regulate - I did not ovulate the first 3 months. Even now, my AF only lasts 2 days. I have been TTC for almost a year now, with no luck, and no problems - we have "unexplained infertility". Good luck!

Yes, Nicmom is right.  I keep my thermometer on my bedside table.  D not drink water or anything for atleast 4 hours prior to that.  YOur body should be in resting mode for 3-4 hours.  Use the digital kind as it is more accurate

You want to take it before you even get out of bed in the morning. Just getting up and moving around can change your temp so that's why they suggest taking it before you even sit up.

Good luck.
