I am going for my second iui and I was wondering how many does it take? They are not cheap and I just don't know how many we can afford. With the first I only had one follicle is that bad? I will go in for the follicle scan tomorrow so hopefully there will be several. My spouse also has issues with the sperm mobility and shape. Is there any hope?

Hey there JessieJames!

Sorry I haven't been on here the last couple of days - but I'm eager to know what's happening with you this round!!  There are often lots of smaller follies, and they just have to wait for a couple to 'break through' and become the leaders of the pack, so to speak.
I'm hoping for you!!!  I think since this is your first baby (sorry, am I right in that?), then the doctors should be less conservative, and let three or so large follies grow.  My RE didn't want to see more than one large follie for me, as I'm trying for third and last baby.  But in saying that, I know the more follies, of course, the more chance of a pregnancy.
Please let me know what's happened, as things must have moved on from your u/sound.
GOOD LUCK!!!  Keep me posted please:0)

You should be fine!  I have many friends with PCOS who have become mums, without too much problem.  This is only your second cycle, and I'm sure you will get a positive, if not this time, then next!!  Just keep the faith going:0)

Thank you for the encouraging words. I have PCOS so they said iui then ivf. Unfortunately there is no way I could afford ivf they said it would be around 10,000.00 and i just cant afford that at this point in my life. Maybe in the future if the iui's dont work but I have faith that this one will. Thanks to all!!!!!

Hey Jessie!

First of all, good luck with your second cycle!!

...IUI is cheap only if you're able to do it without the drugs.  I got pregnant with my son, during my first ever IUI, and no drugs were needed, so that was awesome!  With my daughter, I had two natural IUIs, but neither worked.  They pinpointed my problem being I was having premature LH surges, meaning my egg was ready way before my uterus was for implantation, so the chances of achieving a pregnancy weren't good.  My third IUI was done with puregon, after I was on the pill for a month, and I conceived, so that was great!  I'm now trying for third child, and am 11DPO.  For me, IUI was pretty good, but we are all different, and all using these treatments for different reasons.  From my understanding, the chances of getting pregnant with IUI goes down after about 6 cycles - so your RE really shouldn't let you do countless IUI cycles with no success, but you're only on your second, so I'd give it at least another couple of attempts if this one doesn't work.  About the number of follicles, well, one mature follicle is all that is actually required, but of course, your chances do go up if you have more follicles, but then so does your risk of having a multiple pregnancy.  I've had problems with creating too many follicles for IUI, and had to have one cycle cancelled back in June, which was really disappointing, as I'd already paid so much money for all the drugs and scans, so you need to be careful. Do you know if IVF with ICSI would be an option for you?  I realise this is even more expensive, but it's something I would talk over with your fertility clinic if you're concerned about the cost of many IUI treatments.  It's good to weigh up your options.

Good Luck!!!

It's depends on your body...some tried one time, some tried so many...  I tried 2 times but didn't conceive.. I quit after that... when i don't think about trying to conceive, then i got pregnant unexpected...

I agree with you.. IUI isn't cheap... especially with all the fertility medicines you have to take... all you have to do is take the chance... since your husband sperms mobility and shape aren't look good, then IUI is the best option for you...

There always hope for you... just don't stress out too much and think positive...

good luck to you tomorrow.
