Clomid

Hi everyone.  I am brand new (writing for the first time now) to this Forum. Today is Oct. 1st 2008 and my AF is due Oct. 3rd.  My doctor is going to put me on Clomid for the very first time. Last month we got ready to do AI using the cervical cup method and the tests he took (blood tests and ultrasounds) the week I was supposed to ovulate showed no sign of ovulation.  I had just taken a trip across the country and I was very nervous and excited about possibly becoming pregnant this month so I think that affected my ovulation.  He canceled the procedure for that month and then I had all the symptoms of ovulation like 2 days later (heavy CM and tiny cramps on both sides as usual... I know my body and I know I was ovulating).  So, he wants to put me on Clomid for this cycle due to what he thinks was no ovulation last month.  I need some feedback on Clomid and will it harm me if I am actually naturally ovulating? Also, would there be CM if I wasn't ovulating?

Hi, I was placed on Clomid when I was also fairly sure I was ovulating each month.  The month my Dr. had me do blood tests was one of the rare months I did not ovulate well (as she put it)  because my temps did not go up much which I was charting.  Either way she did not put much stock in my opinion and wanted me to take clomid.  She knew I was ovulating but she said not very well.  I still do not know what that means exactly but my progesterone was low that month.  I had been trying for over a year so after much deliberation I decided to take it although I had the same fear you do now.  I took it for three months and I had most of the uncomfortable side effects like headaches and dizziness. I did not get pregnant during that period.  The 2nd month after finishing the clomid I went to an RE who going to start some tests on me like seeing if my fallopian tubes were open and other tests.   She did a Ultra sound and said that I was going to ovulate soon on my left side.  She told me to use clear blue easy digital ovulation test. I did the test and it told me the day before I was ovulating. Unlike the months before when we tried every other day for a 10 day period we were able to wait to the best day and that month we got a positive pregnancy test and I am now 31/2 months pregnant and never had to do those scheduled tests.  So this is a long way of telling you that the Clomid did not end up messing up my cycles and chances of getting pregnant naturally.  It seems to help a good deal of women get pregnant and who knows it might have played a role in helping me if there was still a residual effect.  I did have a bad time of it while on the clomid and did not like taking it all but I know many women have very slight side effects.  In my case I think the problem was a timing thing and the clear blue easy digital ovulation test did the trick.  I wish the best of luck in what ever you decide to do.  I hope to have good news soon!!!

Many people who ovulate on their own use clomid, so you should be fine :-) It basically just "enhances" ovulation, and it may help you produce more than one egg, which also increases your chances. Overstimulation is rarely not an issue unless you have PCOS, as clomid is a fairly mild fertility drug (as opposed to injectable drugs).

Best of luck!

Hi, welcome to our forum. About the CM, I think you can still have some CM even with no O'ing. About Clomid, there is always that small % that it can cause some side effects...as you will see in this forum there are many who do use clomid with no harm to their bodies...in my case I did use clomid once, and it cause me to O too much ( I had too much eggs trying to grow inside my ovaries, I think the medical term for this is hyperstimulated Ovaries) it was painful for 2 weeks and it does need medical attention, but it is very rare, I guess I was the 1% to who it does happens.

Good luck in your journey!
