Safe for intercourse?

We had our transfer on 2/15 and my blood tests confirm I am pregnant. My HCG level was just above the singleton range on both tests. We will find out on the 19th if we are having twins or a singleton at our first appointment. My question is when is it safe to have intercourse again? The paperwork from my doctor said that we had to wait 2-3 weeks after the retrieval and I've read online about 2-3 weeks after the transfer. I just don't want to do anything that could cause a miscarriage...should I wait until after my visit on the 19th or is it safe now?

It's not so much the sex as it is the orgasm. The big O can cause uterine cramping, therefore doctors will have you hold off for awhile.

Congrats on your BFP!  Also, congrats to the others who responded to this post with a BFP!  Though I have yet to get my BFP, I always feel hopeful and very happy when i hear of other women getting their BFP.

Camigirl74, I would wait and speak with the doctor before having sex...sex is not known to cause miscarriage, but i always err on the side of caution..like someone else said, you've waited a long time for this...going a few more weeks without sex is a small sacrifice to pay. :)

Helen72, DH stands for dear husband, i think. :)

DH=dear husband
dd=dear daughter, etc.
bd=to have sex; stands for babydance  :)

I am just starting my ivf cycle and unfortunately too far away to know the answer to your question.  But I read you are not supposed to bd till implantation is confirmed which it is for you.  Also, you should abstain from bd'ing for the first trimester if you had a miscarriage in the past.

Thanks....I finally learned what BFP (which I've seen quite a bit and now know it includes me!) means....what about DH?

CONGRATS to you as well!!! We did 3 rounds of IUI's and then decided to do IVF. I had to travel to another state and was there for the entire process. So, it's been since about the 20th of January since my husband and I have had intercourse. I just have no idea how long to wait :)

My first test came back at 228 and then 2 days later it was 525....just outside the singleton range...

I have been researching infertility issues online and have seen many acronyms and have no idea what they mean....I feel so out of the loop!!!

Congrats to you!!!  We are on the same time line.  I did not do IVF, I did IUI #3 on the 16th and now have a BFP.  I did not ask the nurses about intercourse....I keep telling my dh that we waited for 2.5 yrs. for this, he can hold out a little longer to be sure the little bean is settled in!!  HA!
What are your latest HCG numbers?  My nurse just called and said mine were over 1000 and they were having to dilute my blood and get a more accurate number......
