8 weeks and no period after d&c

I'm just looking for some advice really and some re-assurance that i shouldn't be worrying.  8 weeks ago i had a D&c. 5 days before i went for an early scan due to some slight bleeding and there was no heartbeat. I would have been 10 weeks but the baby had died at around 8 weeks. I didn't have any complications after the d&c which was 5 days after the scan. i bled on and off for about a week and a half and since then have had nothing!?!?!? is this normal? i called my doc and she didn't seem concerned. I'm def not pregnant either as i've done tests. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks x

I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I've had two myself, one exactly like yours (required a D&C) and one natural miscarriage, so I know how difficult it can be. At 8 weeks along, your hcg levels were probably pretty high, and since they have to come all the way back down to below 5 before your cycles can start back over, it can sometimes take a little while before you get your next period. Sometimes, doctors monitor your levels after a miscarriage to see when they go back down, but it's not as common after a D&C as it is after a natural miscarriage (since a natural miscarriage has a higher risk of tissue being left behind). If you otherwise feel fine, I would give it a couple of more weeks; and if still no period, call your doctor back and see what he says.

I was just wondering what your outcome was. I am also 38 years of age and am having the same symptons as you, especially the hot flashes. Today makes 10 weeks since my D&C and I still have not seen my period. My Dr. started me on a 10 day cycle of Provera, which I am on my 3rd day of.I am so worried, and your previous situation sounds identical to the one I am battling now. Any advice will help.

I had a d and c in August 2015 and bled on and off for about 5 weeks afterward. I had another scan and it turned out the d and c hadn't been done properly and there was still some tissue left behind. I had to have another d and c on 8 October. It's now 7 weeks since then and I've had no period. I've been quite 'hormonal' for the last week-lots of spots, mood swings etc but no period. The clinic said to ring back on Monday as there is no one available right now who can help me. I'm worried that they've done something and damaged me in some way. Any advice?

I wanted to give an update for anyone else experiencing extremely light or no periods at all following a D&C.  I finally went in for a scan and turns out I have scar tissue in my cervix from the procedure that is blocking any menstrual flow.  I had two months worth of lining/blood built up in my uterus.  The docs kept telling me to keep waiting, but it had been 9 weeks since my D&C and I'm so glad I followed my instincts and pushed for a scan.  They had to dilate me to release some fluid and I'm now on BCP for a month and hoping for a regular flow next cycle!  Hope this is helpful for anyone searching for info.

Hollyhobby13 - Have you gotten your period yet? I also had a D&C on June 10th and now 8 weeks later have not yet gotten a period.  So frustrating. My HCG blood tests have been negative since 4 weeks ago so I feel like something should've happened by now!  The week after I got the neg blood test, I had about 5 days of cramps and brown spotting and kept thinking AF was going to show up in full force and then nothing.  I have had cramps, boob pains and mood swings on and off since then, but no bleeding.  Taking a HPT once a week so I know I'm not pregnant again.  My cycles were super regular before all this, every 28-29 days. Initially doc said I should get a period about 4 weeks after the procedure, but now they're telling me to wait another month or two!  Grrrr

I had a miscarriage and d&c done June 10, 2015 and I am 7 weeks post op from it. I still have not received my period however, I have symptoms of a period. Had these symptoms for a week or so. They are pimples, cramping, cravings etc. I took two pregnancy tests both negative so I'm not pregnant. Should I be concerned or just wait it out a few more weeks? Any advice is very much appreciated .

It is an old thread.  Have you had your levels checked?    You could ask your doctor to give you provera to jump start your cycle.
Have you had any period like symptoms?

I see this is an old thread, but...I am in the same boat, still waiting for a period. I had the d & c 5 weeks ago and neg pregnancy tests for the past 2 weeks...so I assume my numbers have gone low enough to actually have a period. I am much older-42- and lost the baby around 13 weeks- so I am running out of time :((((

I'm 35 and miscarried at week 9.  We ran my HCG levels last week and they were 'normal' but I haven't heard of (nor has my doctor mentioned) FSH.  I did get hot flashes at night for about 3 days.
I'm supposed to check back in this thursday with my Doc and will update.

I'm just curious, but did any of you experience hot flashes during the time that you weren't having your period?  And did anyone have their FSH tested?  I'm in the same boat as everyone else in that I miscarried at week nine, underwent a D&C, and then went eight weeks with no period.  During that time, though, I was having hot flashes, so my doctor ran tests and said that somehow my FSH had shot up to 90.  He immediately diagnosed me with Premature Ovarian Failure (I'm only 38) and put me on hormone replacement therapy of which I've gone through six months of horrible side effects.  I don't think it agrees with me, which makes me wonder if my body hasn't really shut down like the doctors say, and it's producing estrogen, too -- so I'm getting way to much or something.  I don't know.  I don't know what to think.  Does anyone have any advice?  Are hot flashes and a high FSH score common for other women who take awhile to return to their period after a miscarriage and D&C???

I had a d&c march 2011, I didnt get a period until THIS July! Over a year! I was concerned as well, my gyn did blood tests to check my thyroid, or any signs of hcg levels because I havent gotten a period. I ended up doing a round of progesterone pills, which only made me spot. She suggested birth control pills (but im Ttc) so I never took them. I got a period finally in July & I'm hoping I'll ovulate this week & find a bfp soon!!

the doctor was totally crap. He really wasn't interested at all and just kept saying that it can take a while for your body to get back on track. The 5 day course or progesteone i took did kind of work. I had a bleed when i finished it, but then my next natural period wasn't for another 6 weeks. So i think mayb the progesterone did kick start my body a bit, but not completely.

If I were you I would go to the doctors and ask for a 5 day course of progesteone. That might be enough to get your cycle going again. Thats really your only option. Either that or wait it out.

Just before I actually got my period I went back to the doctors again and he said he would book me in for scan so they could see what was going on. But that was 6 weeks ago and I still havent even had a letter through from the hospital. I think he didn't even bother referring me, and because my period started 3 days after I'd seen him I never followed it up. He's such a d**k!!!

Dont leave it ages because all it will do it stress and depress you! get the ball rolling and dont be fobbed off! :)

hope that helps

Did the dr. say why it has taken so long? So the progesterone didn't make it start that you tried back in May? Did you do anything that finally made it come?
I am asking because I am in the same boat. It's been 8 weeks one day since my D&C and I haven't had my period... I thought possibly I had gotten pregnant again but hpt says no. :(

I'd just like to update incase anyone else comes upon this chat who is going through the same thing.....

I have finally got my period a total of 4 MONTHS after my D&C!!!!

I still cant believe it has taken this long. I know when you initially find out you've lost a baby instinct is to get it over with as quickly as possible and have a D&C but i really wish I had thought about it more and let things happen naturally! If i had i probably wouldn't have had to wait 4 months for my body to recover. Its felt like a life time when all you want is your body back on track so you can try again.

Just take a step back and weigh up all your options before you do anything.

Thanks so much for your reply. Its just nice to get some reassurance that its normal. when your body doesn't get back to normal straight away you start to panic that somethings gone wrong. We're really keen to fall pregnant again aswell so that makes it even more frustrating. fingers crossed period will appear VERY soon!! :)
