Few mature eggs

Hi Everyone,
I am 42 and just did my first IVF. They retrieved 12 eggs, 5 mature, 4 fertilized, 0 made it to day 5 blastocysts so no transfer. I think the Dr expected at least 1 to transfer because he was so encouraging that we do genetic testing and bank several cycles. Does this seem like a low number of mature eggs out of what was retrieved? I am wondering if they could have held off on the HCG shot a day longer. I had a gut feeling that told me I wasn't ready for retrieval. Wish I'd followed my gut. Anyone had a similar experience in a similar age range?

12 eggs and 4 fertilized is very good @42 yo.
I would refer to transfer on day 3 rather than day 5 and have nothing to transfer.  Talk to you RE and good luck on your next cycle.

Thx. You are brave going without pics. I hadn't thought of doing it this way, but I get the haunting. Anyway, congrats again and all the best.

You can contact resolve .com & they can connect you with a 3rd party reproduction group.  Yes, it is hard to pick a donor but we knew when we saw her we made the right decision.  We didn't use pics though. It's all anouymous & like it better that way.  I think the pictures will haunt me otherwise.  We were given her health history so no need to do genetics.  Good Luck to you!!

Hey! I am so happy to hear about your awesome news! I can't imagine the joy you must be feeling! I am just so excited for you! Did you have a hard time choosing a donor? I have already been perusing the donors that are offered through the fertility clinic I go to. I feel as though it is not as hard to choose a donor as it is to make the choice to go with a donor. By chance did you have the donor's embryos genetically tested prior to transfer or was your RE confident in their health? I have so many questions to ask the donor coordinator and I want to make sure we make the right choices, of course. Do you know of any good support groups for women going the donor route? Congrats again to you, I am very happy for you. I will celebrate for you on the West Coast on the 28th. :)

I am actually pregnant & due any day with Twin boys.  I have a c section scheduled for 10.28.  We used donor eggs.  I was lucky to get pregnant on first try this way.
I did do IVF 4x's on my own with no luck when I was 37/38 & never rec'd a reason.  I was told I had perfect embryos, just was not meant to be.
You will find the direction you need to try also.    Best Wishes to you!!

Hi,
Thanks for being so encouraging! We were so happy when they got 12 eggs and then so discouraged when 0 made it to transfer. I think I will only try drug stim with IUI's now a couple of times and then turn to donor eggs if no luck. Are you ttc at the present also? I keep hearing miracle stories about older women who give up on ttc and then fall prego naturally. This would be truly great. I wish you the best.

Hi,
No endo for me. I am fortunate in that all the plumbing looks good. Are you going to keep trying? It is so expensive, I think I will only try drug stim from now on with IUI's and do this a couple of times before turning to donor eggs. I hope you succeed. I think we just have to believe that one way or another we will succeed. Keep the faith. All good things come to those who wait.

12 eggs is good although I am not sure holding off on trigger would have made a difference in making the eggs to blast.  On average they say there is a 50% fertalization rate.  Since you had 5 mature I think 4 is GREAT!!.

What is your plan? I hope you try again.
