Follistim

I was just put on Follistim injections starting Friday.  According to what the nurse told me, they regularly check labs and ultrasounds to check the size of the follicles to make sure the right amount of medication is given.  Can anyone that's gone through this process tell me how regularly they went in for appointments?  I was told it was roughly about every other day, but the calendar they gave me only says twice in the cycle.  Can anyone shed some light by sharing their experience?  I'm trying to figure out how much time I have to take off work.

This is my 4th cycle on Follistim, just started it today.  At my clinic the protocol is as follows:
On CD2 you go for blood work/ ultra sound.  They check to make sure that there are no cysts that ovaries are clean, and the assign a dose of follistim which you start taking on CD2 evening.
You have to go back there after 5 or 6 days of injections, and from there on every other day.  Every time you go there you get b/w to check the estradiol levels and u/s to see how follicles are growing.  Usually they grow 2mm per day.  If they see that your blood levels are too high they call you in the afternoon to adjust you dose.  So you keep going until follicles are around 20mm then they tell me to take the Ovidrel shot and day after come in for IUI or start bding depending what you're doing.

It seems that every month I respond slightly different to the meds.  On 1st cycle I started with 75ml I produced too many follicles and the dose was reduced to 37.5.  The 2nd cycle I started out with 37.5, but produced only one follicle.  Cycle 3 I was on 50ml, follicles grew really slowly and for the last 4 days they put me on 75ml.  Still I produced only 1 good size follicle.  This month I started out with 75 again so we'll see this happens.

Sorry for too much info, but hope this helps.

It depends on each patient.  I was put on medicine for 3 days 150ml, 150ml and 75ml on my IUI then I got my first blood test, U/S.  On the day 4, another 75ml, second U/S, blood test again, my RE give to me another 75ml for 2 days and plan to have trigger shot 2 days later.  When I'm back for the 3rd U/S and blood test.  I got hypersimulation, and got cancel my cycle.

I guess I should have included that!  I am going to be doing IUI.  The dosage prescribed right now is 100 for 9 days of the follistim, with a trigger shot.  Thanks for the info so far!

I have done combo of clomit + follistim. My Re has seen me 2-3 times a week until the trigger shot. He has to follow you more carefully than clomit because of Hyperstimulation. It also depends how many days you're gonna do. I have done only 3 days of follistim so i was seen 2-3 times a week.
