How much does IVF cost and what is the success rates?

Hi. I am thinking about doing IVF. But my doctor said it will cost $10k. That is very expensive.

Can anyone tell me what is the success rate? I am 34 years old.

Also, did you go under general or local anesthesia during the procedure? Is it a surgery? And how long is the recovery time?

Hi. Thanks for your responses.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been trying to conceive before you tried IVF?

Have you done any other method before, like IUI?

I also have endometriosis, but the doctor said my fallopian tubes are normal.

My insurance doesn't cover IVF at all and I don't have a lot of money. So I really need to know as much as I can about the procedure before I throw my savings into it.

Thanks.

Hi.  I went through my first IVF in October.  It cost about 20K.  I live in Miami, Florida and everything here is very expensive.  I am very blessed and got pregnant with twins in my first try.

The retrieval for me was done with a sedation, something they have began to call the Michael Jackson drug.  Its sort of a conscious sedation where you are able to speak to the doctor is asked a question, but you do not remember anything.  The procedure lasts 20 minutes, if that.  They had me rest for the day, next day you are good to go back to work.  When they do the transfer my doctor recommended 48-72 hrs bedrest.

Good luck.  I hope this helps a little.  If you have any more questions ill be happy to answer them.

$10 sounds great ;) I know it's expensive... We went through the Attain Program, where you pay $20,250 + meds & you're guaranteed 3 fresh/3 frozen attempts. Then, if you don't bring home a baby after six tries, you receive up to 70% of your money back. I have to add that certain procedures weren't included, such as a trial transfer, anesthesia, ICSI & embryo freezing. So, it can get expensive. Talk to your RE's office. They should have a breakdown of costs for you.
For my retrieval, I was under general anesthesia. I rested that day & the next & then went back to work. For the transfer, I was given a Valium just to make sure I was relaxed, but the transfer is quick & wasn't painful. I was on strict 48 hours bedrest afterwards, getting up only to use the restroom. After the 48 hours, I continued to take it easy. No heavy lifting, etc.
I'm 37 years old & we got pregnant on our first attempt. We transferred one embryo & I'm almost 21 weeks pregnant with twins :) Good luck to you!!!

I live in Texas - It cost $14,000 including meds with IVF.  We had 6 embryos - dr. tranferred 2 embryos, froze 4 embryos.  I was blessed and got pregnant first time - I was 36 yrs old.  I went back this last August at age 37 to do FET(frozen Embryo Transfer) - it cost $3600 including meds.  Dr thawed & transferred 2 embryos.  I was blessed again & am now 14 weeks preggers.

Obviously, it is a lot of money, but in my case it was well worth it!  Hope this helped & GOOD LUCK with whatever you decide :)

hi.  i have been thru ivf 3 times.  I haven't gotten pregnant at all.  Don't use me for an example though b/c I know alot of women on here get pregnant w/ IVF and 3 women I know personally got pregnant more than once w/ it.  I am 29 years old. The success rate for someone my age is about 50%.  I don't know where you live or what kind of doctor you talked to but where I go, the cost of an IVF cycle (with meds) costs around $20 thousand.  Insurance in some states do cover it so I would look into that.  I went under general anesthesia for the retrieval.  I took that day and the next off, although I could have went back to work the next day.  After the transfer, they say to rest for 2 days, but I rested for 4 days.  I am sure other women on here will tell their stories too but if you have any questions feel free to ask. :)
