DO is Doctor of Osteopathy. My RE strongly disagrees with pm temps vs waking temps. I asked that question myself.
"Basal body temperature is the body temperature measured immediately after awakening and before any physical activity has been undertaken. In women, ovulation causes an increase of one-half to one degree Fahrenheit (one-quarter to one-half degree Celsius) in basal body temperature (BBT); monitoring of BBTs is one way of estimating the day of ovulation. The tendency of a woman to have lower temperatures before ovulation, and higher temperatures afterwards, is known as a biphasic pattern. Charting of this pattern may be used as a component of fertility awareness."
My body temp taken at 8pm every day is different every day. Sometimes by as much as 2 deg!!! Even pre-o. Some nights I am just laying around and it will be lower. Other nights, I ran errands, rushed to get home, rushed to make dinner and get chores done, etc. It is always much higher on those types of days. I am a head case and temp several times a day. I have been doing it for more than 20 yrs. The only true way to bbt is 1st waking temps. The minimal shift at o time would not be detected on pm temps nearly as easy. HTH
I agree with you - but does that mean that I can never use BBT as a means to determining my ovulation? I just can't believe that every woman out there sleeps through the night. This has to be the single most frustrating thing that i have tried to figure out (LOL)....
I wake up 2 or 3 times a night; but I don't get up or out of bed or anything - the most that I do is lay there and watch t.v., but even that is rare...I usually am just 'up' enough to know that I am 'up'. I set the alarm for 6:15 a.m. because that is ALWAYS before I need to get up to do something...and here's the chart of the results - it's insane! Do you have any pointers or tips? I always want to hear what you have to offer - experience beats doctors any day of the week :)
