I'm in the same boat. No fertility-related coverage, not even for diagnostic testing. But I figured, considering how much fertility meds/IUI and IVF costs, the tests aren't that bad. I think...
I totally see what you're saying about determining ovulation, though. That would be a bit tricky since you've been so irregular. I would suggest OPKs, but that could be difficult, since your don't know approximately when to start testing.
Do you chart at all? That could help. BBT charting, where you take your temperature every morning, is free :-) and it will tell you when you ovulated. It will only tell you after the fact, though, so it won't help you determine when to BD to get pregnant, but it will tell you when to go in for a 7 dpo progesterone test.
To help you better pinpoint when to BD, you could also chart cervical fluid and position. When you have increased wet or eggwhite cervical mucus and your cervix is high and soft, that's when you're most fertile.
You might already know all this, but I figured I'd mention it...just in case :-)
She didn't suggest that we do a progesterone test, but that is a good idea. I have only had 3 periods since my D & C in Sept., so trying to figure out when I am ovulating is a daunting task. In fact, I ovulated in Feb. only 3 days after my period ended! So, if that isn't odd, I don't know what is ;)
Our insurance does not cover any pregnancy related things unless they are "emegencies". Example, D & C, C-Section, etc. So, they will not be covering any of the expense of having testing done. That is why I am wondering what tests should be priority and what should be secondary. I appreciate your suggestions... and will discuss those with my doctor.
Hi and welcome to the forum! I've also had two miscarriages, and I'm currently TTC "au natural" with no meds or IUI. I have had some tests done, though, but I'm thinking about having some more tests. I've had all the standard hormone tests, an HSG and my husband has had a SA. All normal. I do, however, have Factor V (blood clotting disorder), which I already knew about before TTC. After my first miscarriage, I went to an RE for a few months, and she suggested that I start taking baby aspiring right away. So I take that every day together with a prenatal vitamin. A lot of women on here take it before getting pregnant.
As for progesterone, some women do take it every month after ovulation. I'm not, but if your levels are low, it could be a good idea. Maybe you could have your doctor do a progesterone test 7 days after ovulation to see what your levels are in a normal cycle. If they're above 10 (or 15 if you're taking fertility meds), you should be OK. If it's less than that, you may need a supplement.
Best of luck to you!
