Long luteal phase

I know a normal luteal phase is like 12-16 days but is it possible to have a luteal phase of around 3 weeks?  I think I might and I'm kind of hoping or else I won't ovulate until after my husband leaves again (this time for Iraq) and I'll have to wait... and wait... and wait for another opportunity.

Well the last was 21 days before expected period but I don't have a lot of faith in this cycle.  Last night he flew back to his post to finish preparing to go to Iraq and he'll be home on leave somewhere between March and October (they don't determine it until after they get there).  I was trying to check my cm a little near the end but I started spotting pretty bad so I gave up.  Is spotting bad for the sperm?  I've heard of women spotting during ovulation but I've only been doing it for 3 cycles now I think.  The first time was on days 14-17 of a 43 day cycle, the second was 21-23 of a 43 day cycle, and this time it was also days 21-23.

If you have a normal cycle, and are not on any meds, then a three-week luteal phase would probably not be possible. However, Lilyb is right, sperm can live for several days in fertile cervical mucus...up to five! So let's say you have a 14-16 day luteal phase...then you could technically still have a chance by BDing 19-21 days before your next period is due. Good luck!

no, I know I should be so I know better what to expect but they're kind of expensive when we're not going to modify our bd behavior because of the results

Hi,

I think a normal ovulation occurs 14 days prior to your expected period. Ive read that the time between your period and ovulation can vary, but the time between ovulation and the next period is pretty much constant. Keep in mined though that sperms can survive for up to 5 days in your uterine. So, if you have sex(many times;-) right before he leaves, there is still a possibility that you get pregnant.

Are you using OPK?

Best of lucks
