Has anyone had an HSG or Hysterosalpingography

Im scheduled to have this done on the 11th and was just wondering if any of you ladies ttc have ever had this done. I was given info to read on it but I wanna know what to expect from someone who has been through it. My husband and I are having testing done to make sure everything is ok, any inputs?

I had one done and found it very, very painful, but like some of the posters above have said, some people find it to be no real issue and then others, like me, found it to be pretty bad (but I suspect that might be because I did not really expect it to hurt very much and might not have taken enough Motrin, so I was not very prepared for the pain. It really took me by surprise.) The good part is that it's over pretty quickly, and though I was dry heaving in the parking lot and writhing in pain the back seat of the car, within an hour or so, I felt pretty normal again :) I think I might be more of the exception here, though....good luck!

I had an HSG done 12/28/2011 and to be honest, I was expecting a lot worse.  Of course you may be uncomfortable and a little pressure, but it is a in-and-out procedure.  It really helped to take a mild pain med an hour before hand (check with your physician for and recommendations).  You will spot and have a mild discharge for that day, but it's normal.  Everything checked out good with me, hoping for the same news for you.  Be blessed...

I had this done last year. I am a wimp when it comes to pain and i did not think this was that bad- I took a couple of vicoden before hand (my sister took me there and drove me home). All I felt was some cramping for a couple of minutes but it wasn't that bad. Take a pain pill beforehand or even some Aleve and you should be fine.

I've had it done twice.

Every woman is different as well as the person giving the procedure. My first one didn't hurt per sey except putting the catheter in. No one knew it was hooked shaped so he hit the wall and ouch!!! But the dye going through didn't hurt.

The one I had a few months ago was much better. Didn't hurt. I warned the doc of the "hook" but he said it wasn't there (guess having a baby corrected it). I was clear with both tests done three years apart.

I hear horror stories to "no big woop" stories. It's not a complete joy but I can't say for me that it was horrible. It's more freaky.

Honestly, both times I asked for a valium and that helped take the edge off .The prescription meds they gave me to prevent infection was horrible. So sick from it.

I would ask for the valium.

I had this done in July, It's not a very pleasant procedure, but it gives them insight on if your tubes are blocked. My doctor found that both tubes were blocked and hindering me from getting pregnant they unblocked them, and i did clomid with a ovidrel trigger shot and got pregnant on the first try. I'm currently six weeks : )

The procedure only last maybe 10 minutes and like i said its not pleasant i had major cramping during procedure which is to be expected. Afterwards i was totally fine and went on about my day.

Good luck!
Baby dust to you!
