Male Infertility

My wife and I have been trying to have a baby for a year now, and we cant. Then we find out that I am the problem,. I have whats called microlithiasis, which causes my sperm to be abnromale shaped. Some of my sperm are normal.

SO that means that I need to see a male infertility specialist. Can someone please help me and let me know what I need to do to have a baby. We really need to have a baby. I am thinking artificial insemmination. Anyone know anything about this and what the process is thanks

Thank you so much for your advice. They told me I need to go see a male infertiflity specialist for myself and for my wife she needs to go see an RE, is this correct? or are we waisting our time. I want to do this ASAP. How long does the process take to prep for the artificial insemination, She is 30yrs old if thats helps. Right now it looks like im the problem because i have sometime that is called microlithiasis something like that, which causes my sperm shape to be abnormal. out of 30percent that i need to be normal i have 7 percent. Can the dr pick out the good ones under the artificial insemination process as well?

Im just really anxious to get my wife pregnant and have a healthy child already you know>? Any more advice you provide would greatly be appreciated thank you SOOO much

The poster who said the IUI isn't good for men is incorrect.  IUI is great for men who have crappy sperm counts.   First of all like Tina111 said, the spin the sperm sample to get out all the deadheads, then they take the good ones and they use a catheter and put them in the woman's uterus and get them real close to fallopian tubes.   That way the swimmers don't have to work that hard.  Most sperm die in the journey throught the vagina and to the fallopian tubes.   Most sperm don't make it past the cervix.

But look into ICSI if you can!

I'm sorry it's called ICSI  - intracytoplasmic sperm injection.   Google it my friend!

If you're willing to spend big $$ you can do IVF.  What the doctor will do is hand pick the best sperm in the bunch.  They take the sperm and inject it directly into the egg.  The sperm has to do no work.  Hopefully the egg fertilzes and grows and then they implant it back into your wife.

Most of the time it's the women who have the problem , so it sounds like you're wife would be a good candidate for IVF.   They could get say 14 eggs out of her, especially since she's soooo young and more than likely one or two or three of them will take ...at least!!  The process that I'm talking about is called ISCI and in phx , az it runs about 1000, so tap that onto an IVF bill of $15,000 or so.

A reproductive endocrinologist is the kind of doctor you need to see!  Otherwise, the artificial insemination might work for you.    But ask about BOTH!!

WHo do I need to see in order to get the green light to do the artifiicail insemination. Do I need to see a male infertility specialist. or an endochronologist(dont think i spelled this right). My sperm is suppose to be at 30% which is normal sperm, and my normal sperm is at 7% what does this mean. Any chance that we can succeed in artificial insemination> How long is the process for this artificial insemination. What dr do I need to see for this

thanks to all for your help

A friend of mine has the same problem as yours. Not all the sperm is in good shape. His wife is ok, no problems. They did 3 IUI ( insemination) and none of them worked. I think that IUI is more for women problems. You should see an RE and take it from there. Maybe IVF has more chance for a problem as yours. Good luck

Depending on how many of the sperm are normal will determine the best route to take. Your dr will let you know. I think they would likely start with IUI. Which is an artificial insemination. They take your sperm and wash them to "weed out" the defective ones then inject the good ones through the cervical opening. They do all of the work and time it right. Most times they will give your wife a "trigger" shot to help ovulation.
