Well you need to have a period, especially if you want to conceive. I would recommend going to a different doctor and tell them that you are ready to start trying for a family. They will most likely start you on provera to start your period and then bring you back for a CD 21 blood test. This is typically done 7 days after suspected ovulation. Most readings over 6 mean that you have ovulated (all doctors are different - some say over 10, some say over 15). They'll likely do that for a few months. If it is determined that you are not ovulating they will most likely start you on an ovulation inducing drug - clomid or femara and continue the CD 21 blood test.
I recommend using ovulation predictors (you can get them at the grocery store) or to start temping. However, neither one of these will work if you aren't having a period and/or ovulating. So, definitely start with a doctor (a new one if you haven't been happy with your previous ones) and go from there. Not having a period is 7 years is not normal and should be checked out regardless of wanting to start a family or not. Your uterus stays healthy by shedding each month.
Good luck!

My husband has a child previous to our marriage so I know It's not him. I feel like less than a woman with out my monthly friend!!
