Really long period.

I am really concerned I have had a non-stop period for almost a year and when I had insurance I spoke to my doctor and she blew it off like I was over-reacting.  I am 22 a virgin and have never taken birth-control, I dont smoke, rarely drink and am not quite sure what could be causing this.  Also, I know this might sound strange but I swear it smells sort of metallic and really strong but no one else can smell it but me.  What should I do I don't have a job and no longer have insurance so I can't go to a doctor and get it checked especially since the doctors here always seem to be busy and not all that concerned with my personal problems?

This discussion is related to Abnormal period, constant bleeding.

have you had normal periods before this one?
I had a very long period  for 2 months, and was given birth control in order to stop it...it is not good that you bleed for that long...you should see any doctor, the Planned Parenhood should be free..

Do you have a Planned Parenthood near you?  They can check you out and work with you to give you a payment plan without insurance - I had to do that before.  I don't mean to alarm you, but if you are continually bleeding then you REALLY need to see someone ASAP.  My sister had perpetual bleeding for about six months and they tested her for several serious things.  Fortunately, as may be the case with you, it was NOT anything serious - but you still need to check.  If you don't have a planned parenthood, check for any urgent care clinics or even a local doctors office - you may think they are too busy and not concerned, but it is there JOB.  I had a local doctors office that did gynecology as well, and they had a sliding pay scale.  I just had to bring in some pay stubs, and it turned out I qualified for a $10 payment each time I went - which ended up being less than most insurance copays.  I still had to pay for most tests, but it's a place to start.  Even hospitals have payment plans and sometimes can even offer financial assistance.  You'd be surprised how much help is out there for you if you just try.  You may even qualify for Medicaid, the government program (you can probably google it).

Good luck to you  - and please try to get yourself some help.  It may end up being nothing serious, but you should still get it checked out.
