Split uterus?

Last night an ER doctor informed my 18 yr old daughter who is 6wks pregnant that she has a heart shaped uterus, and that it is fairly rare..... he said there are two cavities separated by a dip, or split, hence the heart shape.  Is there a medical name for this condition? Does anyone have info. about this?  Are there risks to carrying to term? For mom, or baby? Or both?

I have a heart-shaped uterus, and carried successfully to term.  The baby just pushed the septum aside as he grew.  Some doctors act alarmed by a bicornuate uterus, and some act like it's not a big deal.  If she had two uteruses, there might be a chance that the baby will be born early (due to restricted space) but just a heart-shaped one is not that huge a deal.

It's called a bicornuate uterus, and during pregnancy, your daughter will be considered high risk and be monitored extra carefully. I wish you and your daughter all the best for a happy, healthy pregnancy!
